Colorado Local Sustainability and the Rocky Mountain Growers Directory were started by Jim Sincock and Tracy Sweely in March 2007.
Jim Sincock
Co-founder, Director
Jim’s background is in advertising and publication design, commercial photography, and web content management. Jim currently works as a WordPress web designer in Boulder. He also holds a diploma in Advanced Permaculture Design, and plans to continue with teacher training. In 2008-2009, Jim helped start, and co-managed, a biointensive micro-farm and CSA in Lafayette, CO. The farm is a pilot study for the Grow Your Own CSA Co-op at LandShare Colorado and currently managed by Tracy Sweely. He lives in Eldora, Colorado where he has a sometimes challenging high altitude organic vegetable & medicinal herb garden.
Tracy Sweely
Co-founder, Business Manager
Tracy’s background is varied but she has never found herself working too far from dirt… She began her professional life as an archaeologist and has worked as an independent scholar exploring social theory and the use of geophysical techniques for examining subsurface conditions. Tracy has felt privileged to be able to apply her scientific background to farming by creating the Fantastic Farm and Garden Calculator, a tool that assists farmers and gardeners to easily plan their production seasons. Tracy is currently the property manager of the HeartEye Land Trust, in Lafayette CO and is the Farm Manager of the HeartEye Village CSA farm. This micro-farm is the pilot study for ground testing the Fantastic Farm and Garden Calculator and production methods for the Grow Your Own CSA Co-op, a web-based information clearing house that assists beginner farmers in setting up urban CSA farms.
A quote to leave you with
“Shortening the links between farmers and consumers may in fact be the most strategic and enjoyable way to bring about fundamental change for the better. A world in which everyone is well fed with local, fresh foods would be a world where everyone has more power, community, and contact with nature.”
The above quote is from: Bringing the Food Economy Home – “Local Alternatives to Global Agribusiness” by Helen Norberg-Hodge, Todd Merrfield and Steven Gorelick
